Custard pie capers with Bugsy Malone

Members of the Bugsy Malone cast in rehearsal at Blackpool Grand

Splurge guns at the ready as Bugsy Malone The Musical takes to the stage at Blackpool Grand (August 15-17), starring the talented young cast of the theatre's first musical theatre summer school.

The production is professionally produced by the Grand and performed by over 100 young people from across Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre and the North West

Theatre chief executive Adam Knight, said: “We are thrilled that a company of 130 young people will be taking centre stage for the first time our history and it’s wonderful that we can showcase this production as part of our 130th year celebrations."

Alan Parker’s 1970s musical comedy movie was set in the Prohibition era in New York and tells the tale of a city full of mobsters, showgirls and dreamers. The stage version has been a perennial favourite among young companies for decades.

Director Mykey J Young said: “As someone who started their own journey in the arts through training in the youth theatre here at Blackpool Grand, I know the positive impact schemes such as this can have on building confidence and strengthening resilience. I'm thrilled to be able to pass that on to a new generation of theatre lovers."
