Clonter Showcase back live after three years

There is a little over three weeks to go to Clonter Opera's annual Spring Opera Showcase (May 14), which offers a variety of semi-staged opera scenes and arias to entertain both opera novices and long-time fans.

In 2020 the Cheshire theatre conducted its programme online due to Covid, and last year it ran behind closed doors – so this year's event is the first open concert in three years.

This year's singers are baritone Lluis Calvet i Pey; tenor Rhydian Jenkins, mezzo Hannah Morley and soprano Gabrielle Sargent.

Clonter is also welcoming director Giles Havergal CBE and conductor Natalie Murray Beale, with Satoshi Kubo as accompanist.

The showcase is the end-product of a week’s work and this year, in addition to opening the masterclasses themselves to the general public (May 12), the showcase will include a demonstration of how the pieces are put together and rehearsed by the singers, repetiteur, director and conductor.
