Based on the true story of one of British history’s most audacious heist attempts, The Crown Jewels - the new comedy with a superstar cast - arrives at The Lowry in Salford from September 19-23 – the first date on its post-West End UK tour, and so far the only North West date.
The cast is Al Murray (The Pub Landlord) as Charles II; Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off, Light Lunch); Carrie Hope Fletcher (Bad Cinderella, Les Miserables, Heathers); Aidan McArdle (Leopoldstadt, Ridley); Neil Morrissey (Men Behaving Badly, Line of Duty); Joe Thomas (The Inbetweeners, Fresh Meat, White Gold) and Tanvi Virmani (Life of Pi).
Written by Simon Nye, the BAFTA-nominated creator of The Durrells and Men Behaving Badly, and directed by multi-Olivier award winner Sean Foley, the script is based loosely on a story from 17th Century London, in which a gang of misfits attempted to steal the crown jewels.
Nye says: “I hope audiences will be as titillated and thrilled as I am at the prospect of a riotous comedy-drama about a crown jewels heist that really happened."
