After a three year pandemic-induced gap, Manchester International Arts' Streets Ahead festival returns to Manchester on July 30-31 with a weekend of eccentric street theatre, all of it free.
The action-packed programme takes place across four locations in the castlefield area of central Manchester, plus the spaces in between.
Around 20 acts are involved, including traditional street theatre, modern dance, gruesome puppetry, culinary twists and the Castlefield Gymkhana – a chance to get in touch with your inner pony!
The weekend also offers the opportunity to enjoy the much delayed premieres of city favourites Avanti Display's new classic, Full Circle; Kapow Dance Circus Theatre brings its watery spectacle Mayfly (see main picture); Frolicked will be Seeing Red – the company's highly-original take on Red Riding Hood; Strong Lady Productions
– the strongest woman of the street arts scene – shows that we’re all Strong Enough, and the Merlin Shepherd Klezmer Quartet adds a melodic tune or two, featuring Britain’s best klezmer clarinetist. Though you might miss The Invisible Man, bought to the festival by Invisible States; so look out, he might be behind you...
These and more shows are all free to view; there's even one that night appeal to dogs!
Added to these will be plenty of food and drink stalls and more.
