The cast has been announced for Salford Lowry’s Christmas show – a spectacular version of the smash-hit Leeds Playhouse production of the CS Lewis classic The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
The show will run from December 8-January 15, 2022, after breaking box office records in Leeds when it premiered in 2017 and at the Bridge Theatre in London two years later. After Salford, the show will tour the UK & Ireland.
The Pevensie children at the centre of the story will be played by Ammar Duffus (Peter), Shaka Kalokoh (Edmund), Robyn Sinclair (Susan) and Karise Yansen (Lucy), with Aslan, the lion, played by Chris Jared. Mr Tumnus will be played by Jez Unwin, Mr Beaver by Sam Buttery and Maugrim by Michael Ahomka-Lindsay.
Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter wave goodbye to wartime Britain and embark on a magical adventure in frozen Narnia, where they a faun, talking beavers, Aslan the noble king and the evil White Witch.
This show – acclaimed in London as a “theatrical miracle” by one reviewer – is from director Michael Fentiman, who previously directed productions of the Olivier award-nominated Amélie, The Windsors: Endgame, The Importance of Being Earnest, the 50th anniversary production of Joe Orton’s Loot and many more.
Producer Chris Harper said: “CS Lewis wrote 'they open a door and enter a world', and we’re thrilled to be able to bring this incredible new version on a tour of the UK in time for Christmas.
“It has been a challenging time for all of us, but we can’t wait for children and adults alike to join us on this truly magical journey through the wardrobe.”
