Buxton Opera House’s learning and engagement initiative, Platform 3, has been working with primary schools and care homes in Derbyshire to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The Jubilee Project involves three primary schools in Buxton and one in Glossop, and four of Buxton's care homes. Each care home has been offered a Jubilee-inspired singing session, a craft session and a reminiscence session – to evoke memories of the monarchy and past Jubilee events.
Primary schools have received a drama session based on the monarchy and four singing sessions, in which they learned Jubilee-themed songs. The schools and care homes have been paired, so residents will be treated to a celebratory performance of the songs.
The project culminates with the Happy and Glorious Jubilee Singing Celebration at Buxton Opera House on June 13, when all four schools and Platform 3's Kaleidoscope Community Choir will put on an afternoon performance.
Platform 3's Kerry Allsop explained: “We’ve had an amazing experience working on the Jubilee project and it’s been great to pair these schools and care homes.
"Everyone has really enjoyed joining in this once-in-a-lifetime occasion and the children have loved learning new songs and hearing the residents’ stories and tales. We’re really looking forward to the concert too."
