Bollywood comes to Salford

A tribute to the grandeur, costumes and choreography of Bollywood films, Bombay Superstar blurs the lines between reel and real-life.

The 50th co-production between Phizzical Productions and the Belgrade and New Wolsey theatres, this retro musical comes north to The Lowry in Salford from November 8-12, with Nisha Aaliya (Ghosts) as rising star, Laila.

Phizzical's artistic director Samir Bhamra said: “It has taken over 15 years to realise this dream production about the larger-than-life stories from the flamboyant Indian film industry and to have the courage and the belief that it can be presented on stage in a cinematic style.

"We are adorning it with iconic Bollywood hits from the 70s and 80s, when a fusion of orchestral Indian music and international sounds created youthful upbeat rhythms."

The dialogue is in English, but the songs remain in their native Hindi, with subtitles throughout to allow anyone to enjoy the show.
