Blackpool dance season has something for everyone

Blackpool Grand has launched a dance season featuring some of the most popular contemporary performers across all genres.

Dance icon Wayne Sleep (right) looks back over a career spanning five decades, with a little bit of dance and the opportunity of a Q&A in his new An Evening with Wayne Sleep (March 27). Using his own rare film footage and photos, Sleep will describe how he became a principal dancer at the Royal Ballet before moving on to starring roles in the West End, founding his own dance company and touring the world with it in his show, Dash.

One of Europe’s most in-demand dance companies returns to the Grand (March 29) as James Wilton Dance present their powerful new take on The Four Seasons (left). Wilton uses a recomposed version of Vivaldi’s score to create a work of impressive physicality, featuring the company’s signature blend of capoeira, acrobatics, martial arts and classical dance.

Northern Ballet arrives on April 5 for an original retelling of Carlo Collodi’s classic children’s story Pinocchio (right, aimed, of course, at children), followed on May 15 by Strictly Come Dancing’s, Craig Revel Horwood with his debut solo tour. Horwood will reveal a wealth of backstage gossip as he talks about his life from Australia to the West End and Strictly and performs to some of the music which has been the soundtrack to his career.

Sticking with the Strictly theme… in the autumn Argentine Tango king Vincent Simone brings his brand-new show Tango Passions (October 16, pictured below). The Italian stallion takes audiences on a journey to Buenos Aires, with tales and poetry about the history of the Argentine tango accompanied by world-class Argentine tango specialists.
