New Manchester theatre company Beware of the Theatre takes its courage in both hands this August by making its first appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
No Higher Purpose is a farmyard tale with hidden depths: Speckle can't shake the feeling that something isn't right. Could it be that chickens are not, in fact, all-powerful gods, like she has been led to believe?
"We watch as a group of young people, raised their entire life on the remote chicken farm Poultrion, begin to question their wacky way of life," says company spokesman Esme MacBride-Stewart.
With Reverend Rooster's iron fist ruling over the farm, can Speckle and the others find the answers they are looking for - and perhaps even a higher purpose in their lives?
The new musical is from an original story by Connor James Reid, and the company is trying out the piece in Manchester (University of Manchester Student Union Theatre, June 11-12, and note the time, 2.30pm) if you would like to see how Speckle and Co get on... In Edinburgh the show will be at Studio at Paradise in Augustines (August 11-21, daily at 2.40pm).
