A night of revelry quickly leads to a rollercoaster of emotions in Bella Donna, a queer comedy that captures the essence of friendship.
Drag artist and self-proclaimed "Queen of Sass", Bella De Balle, is in high spirits when her friend and flatmate Donna Knight returns home from a long day of auditions and TiE tour-prep.
As Bella and Donna unwind with wine and gossip, their routine girls' night is thrown into disarray by the arrival of an unanticipated guest. What begins as a casual catch-up escalates into a whirlwind of revelations, with a poisoned bottle of wine at the centre of the turmoil.
Written and directed by Laura J Harris, the play covers the unpredictability of life and love and showcases the power of friendship to navigate even the most ludicrous of situations. "The play is a celebration of the unexpected, where the ordinary swiftly transforms into the extraordinary," says Harris.
The play, from Ellesmere Port's theatre and media company Chalice Productions, was an instant crowd-pleaser at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2022 and comes to Salford's Kings Arms from September 19-21.
