Keswick's Theatre By The Lake Christmas show is the world premiere production of Frances Hodgson Burnett's children's classic A Little Princess. Recommended for age six and above, it opens November 17 until January 7.

From the author of the more famous The Secret Garden, this new adaptation follows heroine Sara as she travels from the freedom of a childhood in India to a boarding school in a cold, dark corner of northern England.

There's a professional cast of nine, original music and puppetry. The production also features a youth cast of 24 from the local area, making up three companies of eight who will play the pupils of Miss Minchin's Academy for Young Ladies. Director Liz Stevenson said: “As a child I saw a film adaptation of A Little Princess at the cinema and it has stayed with me ever since. In 2017 I had a wonderful time directing The Secret Garden for Theatre by the Lake and I remember thinking that one day I’d love to make a new production of Burnett’s other classic tale."
